Fondant, oh fondant

For those of you that don't know, I took a Wilton cake decorating class last September. Since then I've been decorating cakes for families and friends. I haven't made anything close to Duff standards - that man amazes me! Although I have made a couple cool ones and I'll try to post some pics.

Unfortunately, we didn't learn how to "play" with fondant in that class. And I've been asked to make a cake that has a big fondant bow on it. I've worked with it a few times, but usually end up saying some not so nice words in the process. For those of you that don't know, fondant is like edible playdoh (if I remember my childhood correctly, playdoh is edible but doesn't taste so good). You can put it over a cake to give it a nice smooth finish and you can also mold it into different objects. You can actually make it using marshmallows and powdered sugar which is much cheaper than buying it and it tastes better too.
So tonight I made a batch and it didn't go too bad. Unfortunately,I didn't have any green coloring (my green gel somehow exploded in my cake supplies box - which was a ginormous mess, but I won't bore you with details). I'm hoping that if I color and make the bow tomorrow it will have enough time to dry out. The good thing about running out of gel is that I'm going to The Cake Shoppe in Bartonville tomorrow over lunch which makes it oh so convenient for Tyroni's lunch. On that note I'll say goodnight! I need to hit the sack so I can dream peacefully of pizza and breadsticks. So sad my world revolves around food!

You are so creative and talented! Yeah...so, you're probably wondering why I'm reading your blog at 2:30 in the afternoon....Eventhough I have an event that I'm putting on at work for over 200 people tomorrow, I had to go pick up Jack at the babysitter's because he's sick. I'm contemplating dipping into a bottle of wine to drown out his poor, pitiful moans...but that I think DCFS would disagree with that approach. It's hard to not be able to help him when he's sick!
